Barriers to Physical Activity, Technology Usage and Physical Activity in Breast Cancer Survivors

Researcher

Gwendolyn Thomas, PhD, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY

Study Review

The purpose of this study was to learn what keeps breast cancer survivors from participating in physical activity, what levels of physical activity breast cancer survivors currently engage in, and what type of technology breast cancer survivors have access to and use daily. The researchers will use this information to develop an exercise app specifically for breast cancer survivors.

The researchers turned to the Army of Women (AOW) to enroll up to 500 volunteers from across the United States. The Call to Action for this study was sent to AOW members on November 15, 2017. The researchers closed enrollment on May 25, 2018, after the AOW provided them with 672 women who were interested in enrolling in the study.

Love Research Army

We combat the disparities that exist in research by challenging the scientific community to launch studies that are as inclusive and diverse as the people that breast cancer affects.
