Dear Friends, Exciting things are happening all around us. If you’ve watched the news recently, you may have heard about a couple new approaches to cancer research, including the President’s development of a Precision Medicine program with the FDA. The other headline-generator was the new apps developed by Apple with Sage Bionetworks, especially Share the Journey, the app that captures patient-reported data in real time for breast cancer research. Both of these announcements have the ability to change the way some research is conducted and keep the patient squarely in the middle of the process. Patient-centered research is a paradigm shift that has been developing in recent years and something we at Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research are gratified to see taking root. We look forward to continuing to be a part of these two endeavors as they take shape and evolve further. Watch for an announcement from the Love Research Army in the coming weeks. We will be recruiting for a focused study cohort to put the Share the Journey app through its paces. Inside Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, we’ve just begun work on two exciting projects of our own. We know that DrSusanLoveResearch.org is a resource many people turn to for information and education about breast health and breast cancer, and we are overdue for a major overhaul and update on our website. Later this summer, we’ll launch a whole new site that will make finding the information you want much easier, as well as offering you many ways to become engaged through our online community. Using the latest web technology will also make it easier for us to share with you new and important information about breast cancer research. We have also started work on a brand new program: ImPatient Science™, a digitally-based educational program that will use short animated videos, blogs, Research Worth Watching segments, FAQs, and other resources to break down breast cancer into digestible information on what’s happening to the body and how to approach treatment, prevention, and palliative care. The first series, Understanding Breast Cancer, will be launched this summer, followed by the Metastatic series. Several other series are on the drawing board, but let us know if there’s a particular topic you’d like to see us tackle. Both projects–the new website and ImPatient Science–are in response to the fact that we know you expect the real story and straight answers from us on all things breast cancer. As Dr. Love has always done, we will continue to be the unbiased voice that tells it like it is. In the meantime, watch these newsletters for more Research Worth Watching updates and maybe even a sneak peak at what’s coming. As always, I welcome your feedback and input. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at . Warmly, Heather
