Dear Friends,

Next Sunday, May 1, Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research will hold the 9th Annual Walk With Love in Pacific Palisades, California. I hope you will join us! Although our walk may be smaller in scale than some of the other breast cancer walks, this is an event with a very clear purpose: to directly support our innovative and unique research projects, aimed at ending breast cancer once and for all.

Walk With Love is a home-grown, volunteer-driven event, internally managed to help keep our expenses at a low 10 percent of what we raise. This 5K walk/run was started by Helene Dameris, a volunteer who continues to take a key role in ensuring its success. It is a community event. People walk from their homes to join us, pushing strollers and leading dogs on leashes, stopping by the farmers market on their way home again. It couldn’t be more family- and dog-friendly, or more fun!

Exactly what do we do with the funds generated by our sponsors, teams, walkers, and runners? Again, we perform, facilitate, and inspire truly outside-the-box research – projects such as:

  • Mapping the Breast Ducts – developing the very first map of the anatomical structure of the ductal system. This map will enhance our understanding of how breast cancer may start and potentially allow for the development of new ways to monitor or treat it.
  • Biome – understanding the bacterial and viral environment of the breast ducts.
  • Love Research Army® – our flagship program, which inspires women and men all over the country to participate in scientific research.
  • Health of Women (HOW) Study™ – our online study designed to examine the causes, treatment, and prevention of breast cancer. As part of HOW, we recently launched the Metastatic Breast Cancer Collateral Damage project, which I announced in my last update.

imageWe are so excited for Walk With Love 2016 on May 1! That’s Dr. Love right of center, wearing a pink visor.

So come on out and help us fuel our research! Register to walk on your own or as part of a team, and ask family and friends to back you.

If you’re not local, join us from wherever you are. People across the country will be getting outside in their own communities – running, walking, and holding other events to support Walk With Love. It’s not too late!

Whether you make a donation, join a team, participate virtually, or show up and walk with us on May 1, your support matters. You can make it possible for us to continue pursuing research that will help us get closer to a future without breast cancer. That’s worth walking for!

With gratitude,

Heather

Love Research Army

We combat the disparities that exist in research by challenging the scientific community to launch studies that are as inclusive and diverse as the people that breast cancer affects.
