Dr. Susan Love Makers Pioneer Video

Did you know that until the 1970s, radical mastectomies were used to treat nearly all women with breast cancer? Back then a woman had little say in her treatment plan and many patients only learned they had cancer when they woke up in the recovery room to discover that a breast had been removed. In the 1980s data began to emerge that showed breast-conserving treatments were just as effective as mastectomies and a pioneering young breast surgeon named Susan Love began to champion the use of less invasive lumpectomies as she fought for women to be given a voice – and a choice – in their healthcare.

What began as a career for Dr. Love turned into a life long mission.

Today, as the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer at Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, Dr. Love is still leading the charge at the forefront of breast cancer research. Her goal is simple: to put an end to breast cancer once and for all.

But she can’t do it without the generous support of people like you. Please join Dr. Love and the fight for a future without breast cancer and donate today.

When you give to Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research we put your gift to work immediately to support our groundbreaking programs:

  • MAPPING THE BREAST DUCTS Because nearly 80% of all breast cancers begin in the lining of the breast ducts—yet no one has mapped the anatomy of human breast ducts—UNTIL NOW. Your support is making this project a reality.
  • SELF-READING PORTABLE ULTRASOUND STUDY Because women in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC’s) are three times more likely to die from breast cancer. NO MORE—your gift is helping develop low-cost portable technology to triage palpable lumps where women have no access to care.
  • BIOME STUDY Because the Human Microbiome Project didn’t include the breast. With your help, we are beginning to uncover the role of that bacteria plays in the development of breast cancer.
  • LOVE RESEARCH ARMY Because it takes an army to wipe out breast cancer. Since its inception in 2008 Love Research Army has been partnering volunteers with researchers dedicated to answering some of the most critical questions in breast cancer research. Today, our army is over 380,771 strong and growing.

We’ve come a long way since radical mastectomies were the norm. The vision and sheer determination of researchers and surgeons like Dr. Susan Love to challenge the status quo continues to inspire hope not only in patients, but in the millions of people touched every year by breast cancer. Please give to Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research and join the mission to achieve a future without breast cancer.

Love Research Army

We combat the disparities that exist in research by challenging the scientific community to launch studies that are as inclusive and diverse as the people that breast cancer affects.
