This year there will be over 330,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. People spanning across every ethnicity, race, gender, and socioeconomic status will have their lives turned upside down by a breast cancer diagnosis. Although the scientific community is making great strides towards a cure, one thing remains standard and that is that breast cancer does not discriminate.
In recognizing that we will need to be strategic and organized with our efforts if we are going to end breast cancer, Dr. Susan Love Foundation has decided to create World Breast Cancer Research Day, happening on August 18th. The 18th day of the 8th month of the year is the perfect day for us to stand behind the 1 in 8 women, and the roughly 1 in 800 men who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. Every new diagnosis is one too many, and Dr. Susan Love Foundation is leading the way with this rallying call for everyone all over the world to come together to fundraise for breast cancer research, the only thing that will rid the world of the disease. Although it is just one day, we are hopeful that World Breast Cancer Research Day will help bridge the gap between the support the breast cancer community is shown in October versus the rest of the year.
Dr. Susan Love Foundation is excited for this to become a monumental campaign this year and every year thereafter, and we look forward to the world accepting our challenge of donating to breast cancer research on August 18th and challenging 8 of their friends to do the same. We can take down breast cancer, but we need your help! For more information on the campaign and how to participate, please visit https://worldbreastcancerresearchday.org/.
